COUNT THEM ONE BY ONE BOOK EVENT
|
|
Sonya Hunt Gray, VP of the NACA Board of Directors and daughter-in-law of Victoria Jackson Gray Adams,
with six copies of Count Them One By One that she purchased for the Northwood Appold
Community Academy.
Former Justice Department Attorney Gordon Martin, Jr. will
present his book Count Them One by One: Black Mississippians Fighting for
the Right to Vote to our students this fall.
Attorney Martin's presenation is a follow-up to the book talk and signing he
participated in at Busboys and Poets in Washington, D.C. in late April.
Attorney Martin's book highlights the important work he and several other Civil
Rights leaders completed in a landmark case in Mississippi in 1961 that was an
important influence in shaping the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Count
Them One by One is an account of one of the events that occurred during the
Black-Led U.S. Freedom Movement, the focal point for one segment of NACA's
mission and vision.
